Section One.

You must answer all questions in this section in complete sentences.

  1. What is the title of this book?
  2. Where is the story setting?
  3. Who is the author?
  4. Who is the illustrator of this book?
  5. When was this book published?
  6. Who are the main characters in this book?
  7. Describe one of the main characters.
  8. Who is the book's publisher?
  9. Is this story fiction or non-fiction?
  10. Did you enjoy this book more than Stuart Little? Why?

Section Two.

Select and answer ten of the following twelve questions.

  1. Find and write three sentences with subject pronouns.
  2. Find and write three sentences with object pronouns.
  3. Find and write three sentences with possessive pronouns.
  4. Find five words and write their homophones.
  5. Find and write five proper nouns.
  6. Find and write five sentences with a verb in the past form.
  7. Find and write five sentences using irregular verbs.
  8. Write synonyms for five of your vocabulary words.
  9. Find and write five sentences with exclamations.
  10. Find and write five sentences with commands.
  11. Find and write five compound words.
  12. List ten of your vocabulary words in alphabetical order.

Section Three.

Select and answer twelve of the following eighteen questions.

Chapter 1
  1. The students shared occupations with their classmates. List five occupations you might share with your classmates and an object associated with each. (Example: fireman-fire hose)

Chapter 2
  1. Brad looks at the clock on the wall to time the reports. Draw three clocks and place the following times on them:
    1. 9:30 AM
    2. 3:45 PM
    3. 10:32 AM
  2. Where would you send Partner after Officer Chambliss retires? (Answer with at least three complete sentences.)

Chapter 3
  1. Jennie did a report on gas stations. If you would chose a report, what would it be and why?

Chapter 4
  1. Partner likes apples. Make a graph of your classmates' favorite fruits.

Chapter 5
  1. Partner would not go into the truck. Describe how you would get Partner to go into the truck.

Chapter 7
  1. The class is thinking of a plan to keep Partner. Describe your plan for keeping Partner in town.

Chapter 8
  1. The class votes to elect a committee. Make a list of at least five reasons why we vote in the United States.

Chapter 10
  1. The students phone the stables to ask their monthly fee for boarding a horse. Write a word problem using money. (Subtraction or addition.)
  2. Brad loves to make lists. Make a list of the things you need to do from the time you wake up until you go to bed.

Chapter 11
  1. The class designs posters to Rent A Third Grader. Where do you think the best places to hang the posters in town would be and why?

Chapter 13
  1. The ad is published in the Penny Saver. Write the ad on page 68 and correct the mistakes.

Chapter 17
  1. The carwash was not a good idea. Make a list of at least five ideas for fund-raising.

Chapter 21
  1. Zoe baby sits Chris. Would you sooner have a babysitter or be a babysitter? Why?

Chapter 24
  1. Brad cares for Mr. Costello's plants. Describe the plant cycle or photosynthesis.

Chapter 25
  1. Mr. Costello has a baseball collection. Do you have a collection? What is it and what is the most important piece in your collection?

Chapter 26
  1. Brad makes a list of things he doesn't want to think about. Make a list of all the fund-raisers the third graders tried that failed.

Chapter 30
  1. How did the story end? Did Brad ever give his report?

Section Four.

Select four of the following eight activities.

  1. Draw a poster to Rent A Third Grader.
  2. Write an add for your local newspaper.
  3. Write a new ending to the book.
  4. Draw a picture of the students with Partner.
  5. Make a small model of Partner.
  6. Draw a map of Akers Acres.
  7. Make a story chain.
  8. Bring in five newspaper headlines.
