Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing
Reading Contract
 
Section One.

You must answer all questions in this section in complete sentences.

  1. What is the title of the book?
  2. Who illustrated the book?
  3. Who is the book's author?
  4. Name the main characters of the book.
  5. List the main events (parts) of the story.
  6. What is the setting of the story?

Section Two.

Do all of the following ten activities.

  1. Find and write five sentences with quotations.
  2. Find and write five sentences with adverbs. Underline the adverbs.
  3. Pick two characters and list ten adjectives for each.
  4. Find and write two opinions and two facts from the story.
  5. Pick five words from the story and using a dictionary, find synonyms for them.
  6. Pick five words from the story and write their antonyms.
  7. Pick five suffixes and five prefixes from the story and list them.
  8. Find five compound words from the story and list them.
  9. Pick five sentences from the story and underline the subject once and the predicate twice.
  10. Find five contractions from the story and write what they mean. (Example: won't ... will not)

Section Three.

Do eight of the following sixteen activities listed below.

Chapter 1
  1. Peter lists his complete address. Write your complete address to include city, state and zipcode.
  2. Fudge seems to get into quite a bit of trouble. If he were your brother, what would you do to make sure he stays out of trouble.

Chapter 2
  1. In this chapter, Peter's parents prepare for guests. List five things you do to prepare for guests. (Complete sentences)
  2. Describe Juicy-O. Use at least ten adjectives for your description. (Complete sentences)

Chapter 3
  1. Fudge seems to have trouble eating. What would you do to make sure he eats. List at least five ideas in complete sentences.

Chapter 4
  1. Peter watches Fudge and does not seem to do a very good job. Have you ever watched your brother or sister for a short time? What are some things that you did to make sure that they were safe?
  2. It does not seem that Peter is following safety rules on the playground. List in complete sentences at least five playground safety rules that you follow.

Chapter 5
  1. In this chapter some of Fudge's friends are described. Describe one of your friends.
  2. Describe the best birthday party you ever had or one in which you were invited.
  3. Plan a party. List the activities.

Chapter 6
  1. Favorite foods are described in this chapter. Describe a nutritious meal.

Chapter 7

  1. Peter needs to do a project on Transportation. What topics can he include in his project?

Chapter 8
  1. Fudge becomes on actor. How would you feel if you were Peter? Why?

Chapter 9
  1. This chpater talks about a rainy day. List at least five things you can do on a rainy day. (Complete sentences)
  2. Fudge gets lost at the movies. Were you ever lost? When and where? Also, how did you feel?

Chapter 10
  1. Dribble is Peter's turtle. Turtles are reptiles. List at least five amphibians.

Section Four.

Select three of the following seven activities.

  1. Do a story chain.
  2. Draw a birthday cake for Fudge. Be creative.
  3. Use an encyclopedia. Find five facts about turtles.
  4. Draw Peter and his family. Describe each.
  5. Make a book cover.
  6. Make a poster advertising Juicy-O. Use as many adjectives as you can.
  7. Make a story cube. List the most important events of the story.
