- Design a poster and brochure for your favorite explorer
or settlement.
- Due Date:

- Guidance:
- You are to complete the poster and brochure as if you are
the explorer.
- Materials:
- I will provide the paper for the brochure. The poster should
cost no more than one dollar.
- What To Include:
- Explorer's name.
- Map (illustrated, from computer or newspaper) of
where the explorer is sailing.
- Compass rose.
- What did you accomplish or discover? Are you an
experienced sailor or is this your first trip?
- Convince me why I should sail with you.
- What will we find on our journey?
- How long will our journey take?
- If I am going to Jamestown, Quebec, or St. Augustine;
why should I settle there?
- Oral Report:
- You will give a short presentation to the class on:
- Remember you will be the explorer showing us your
brochure and poster.
- Get creative. You can dress as the explorer or show
us perhaps a food or item you may find on your
journey.
- Know your information. You will be asked
at least three questions by your audience.
- Explorers:
- You can use any explorers that we have studied.
- You may even use John Smith, John Rolfe, Pocahontas,
or Christopher Newport.
- You could also be the Virginia Company or the
French/Spanish Government trying to convince me
to sail to St. Augustine or Jamestown.

- Social Studies
- Did you include enough information?
- Did you include a compass rose?
- Language Arts
- Is your brochure and poster well written?
- Did you capitalize and punctuate correctly?
- Were you convincing when you presented to
the class?
- Neatness
- Remember:
- You are trying to convince me to sail with you. This trip
should sound exciting!
